Keyless entry only works if I am about 3 feet away from the truck. Is this normal? It will lock from a good distance (25'+) but unlocking requires you being very close. First thought was to replace the transmitter battery, did that...no luck. 99 Disco II. Thanks.

Press the transmitter on your forehead and press the button. It works, just not too sure what it does to your brain though.

Such small distance for unlocking is a safety measure. It has to be. There's no other reason for it.

I talked to my service manager and he told me there was a retrofit larger security antenna kit for customers who complained about short remote operating distances.

This was on the D1, don't know about the D2.

Another way to use your pumpkin as an enhanced transmitter is to try holding the fob under your chin, touching the skin while holding straight up.

Works good and less goofy looking than the forehead method. This gets me 20 feet on a good day. You must remove your mudflaps first though, they cause interference. :-)

Try wrapping your head in aluminium foil you will look a little ridiculous but it will help.

I've found that my keyless entry works at different ranges in different places. Downtown it's good for about 4 feet, yesterday up in the mountains it opened 60 feet away. I have a '96 SD. Holding the sending unit up helps- but I fear it's just another LR quirk!
Cheers,
Paul.

I unlock with my teeth usually, does the trick from about 15 feet away.

Alright, I thought everyone was kidding about holding it up to your head, but I tried it anyway....It works! What a trip.

Listen to me and you will go places! :-)
I was bored one day at work so I grabbed some of the IT guys to do a "study". We placed the transmitter onto several different objects ranging from body parts to windows. We received excellent reception by putting the transmitter on a large window frame while we were inside the building. It was amazing, I could unlock my disco from at least 100' away.

I will admit that I do the chin thing, alot. Helps relieve headaches.

To be honest I also thought that the chin method was a joke, but i tried anyways, and it worked from 60 feet , and it has been working like that every time,

From a l/r dealer in Australia. Just had a good laugh at this conversation until I tried it on my 98 v8. Well suck me dry & call me dusty if it doesn't work from over 60 feet with the chin method. Well done guys.
