i have already posted once but i thought i should clarify. the sound almost sounds like the engine is a turbo but its not. its sounds like it reving up really high, but the rpm gauge never really goes about 5 unless i really get on it. any suggestions?

Open Hood.
Stick nose in there and have a listen for "the noise" whilst revving it.
Prob idler bearing.

i may not be 50, this may be my first disco, and i might not know shit about it, but i am trying to learn. so quit being a smartass. i already opened the "HOOD" and listened. and have consulted my workshop manual for possible causes and am stumped. thnks for the post, but dont treat me like a dumbass, or the next noise we'll both be hearing is my foot cutting air on the way to your ass.

thnks

2nd try

From your descriptive descrition, turbo noise,
Ill say again, prob idler, may be alt bearing, Powers steer pump etc.
Take a bit of dowel and stick it ,,, on to each component in turn with ear on one end.
"may" also be abs pump.

Check PS fluid and all fluids. Is it a squeal? Does it occur while driving or in park? Where does the sound come from the front or back of the engine? Top or bottom? We need more than it sounds like a turbo. The fan cluch kicking in sounds like a turbo. We need more info.

its really hard to explain, ill attempt to capture the sound as an Mp3 and then ill post.
its not a squeal at all, sounds more like the engine reving up really really high when it doesnt need too, but like i said the RPM gauge stays about normal for the amount of gas it is getting.

When you say the engine is reving up. Do you mean the fan is getting louder and faster? Is it continuous?

Check your fan viscous unit. When engaged it sounds as if your engine is reving up really high, when it isn't.
