Does that 250 number include the 96 Eco-Challenge XD's? I have one and don't know a whole lot about it's history. I've tried to find some info on Eco-Challenge's web site, but nothing related to Rovers. Anybody have any info?

Thanks,
Greg

I've been wanting to put my name on that list for a while, but I just can't figure out why I can't post these darn pics. I have a Visioneer One Touch 9220 USB scanner, but I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'll post a few this weekend, right now it's stock but mods are in the works, everything from ARB lockers, Rovertym bumpers. Lift... the list goes on. Is there a registry for them? If not lets start one.

I have a bunch of my XD at:
www.redbirdsra.com (throughout the site)
www.redbirdsra.com/bkgallery.htm
And more but I just can't remember where they are at the moment. I will forward the links to you Ho if you want them to post.

Here is a shot of it when we bought it in August (33K on the clock)

It was a stock XD then, garage kept, never seen snow, etc. It was pretty much as close to perfect as you could get.

This is her today:

Mods so far are OME HD 2", 245/75/16, GPS V, Cobra CB, Warn 9000xd on LR bumper with winch mount (from my LE), on-board air compressor (junk yard install), cheap limb risers, 4 Hella 500's, one rear light on rack.

Mark,
It's a Slimline bumper from Rovertym. I think many people on this sight would agree with me when I say it's one of the best bumpers you can buy from RTE. It's an awsome bumper, and I couldn't be happier. Do a search, and you'll find lots of topics on them.

www.rovertym.com

Just if you are interested in buying a bumper.

Matt, I've been shopping around for a new winch bumper. I have a stash of parts from my 90 that I have been hording til the next Rover and incuded in there was RTE front and rear trailing arms. Once I unload a few more of the unneeded parts I'll start outfitting the XD.

Ho - I was wondering who made your front bumper. Is that ARB? And what size winch do you have in that? Warn?

There were also 50 made for Canada for each 96 and 97.

On a similiar topic - were they all yellow. I saw a silver 97 with a blacked out hood and all the typical extras - even lrsv badges. Anyone know if this truck was dressed up like one?

How diverse were the graphics and paint schemes? The reason I ask is b/c there is one near my apt that appears to be a geniune XD, but its not a solid yellow-its got black running down the sides below the line that sort of demarks the upper and lower fender and above the black trim (could I make that any more of an obtuse description?)

Maybe, if noone is aware of this being commonplace or what have you, I'll stalk over and snap a digital pic to illustrate what I mean.

The XD came in several different graphic patterns. Some had decal packages, and some (like mine, Brendan's above) didn't.

Here's one...

Ahh,
Thanks Matt, the one near me is similar to Sam Leblancs (without the big Canadian flag though).

There were four basic graphic packages that came on the XDs. All of the 96s came with either the TReK (less than 10 of them) or the Eco Challenge (about 25 of them) sticker package depending on which event they were used for. Also, all of the 96 XDs were manual transmission.

The 97s came with a basic yellow with a sole black pin stripe down the side just above the door handle. You then had the option of getting the "XD" sticker package, which was similar in appearance to the TReK sticker package, but had an XD logo where the TReK logo would be.

The truck that Mark linked to above is good example of a stocke XD with a "standard" sticker pattern, while the full sticker package looked more like this:

http://www.discoweb.org/samleblanc/Dscn0023.jpg

Except the US XDs had an American Flag sticker on it instead of the Canadian one.

Thanks,
Nathan Hindman

Incidentally, there were two or three TReK XDs that were reused for the Camel Trophy Selections for 1997, which IIRC were held out near Grand Junction, CO. Those trucks had the TReK logo stripped off the trucks and replaced with big Camel Trophy stickers. I used to see one of the trucks here in Boulder, CO quite regularly a couple of years ago, and one used to be up in the New England area but was for sale a year or two ago...

Thanks,

Aside from off-road accessories, color and sticker package, was there anything fundamentally different about them (ie. suspension, tire size, axles, etc.)?

This link shows one of the Trek editions that was for sale in Savannah, GA around 98 I think: http://www.stromtrooper.com/97xd1.GIF I wanted one ever since I saw that one, but as you probably know got a regular XD. I did get my Camel Trophy 97 stickers in from Austria yesterday (ebay) and they look so cool.

Mine, like Ho's, has that special traction device too but I haven't found the secret switch yet.

Our SVD LE will have a black hood sticker on it soon. Jennifer really wants one, you gotta like that.

I'll be selling my XD traction device when I get my ARB lockers. Anybody want to call dibs on it first? $400 takes it, and I'll pay shipping!

Don't let this deal slip away!!!!

Howboucha Matt! I figured I could get at least $600 out of mine. You just cost me $200.00. I wonder how hard it is to remove. I checked the crackelator buntin and I think it will come off with a 17mm socket, but the traction device may take a 22mm and I don't have one. Maybe I can get one from Autozone.

BTW, LR charged me $60.00 to change the traction device fluid and filter. Is that a good deal? I did notice an increase in mpg after it was serviced.

Mark,

I think they're yanking your/our chain about the "traction device". :-)

If you want a stock diff though, I think Matt will have one available when his ARB locker arrives.

HaHaHaHa... you got freakin ripped off Brendan. I changed my TD fluid/filter for less than $20 just doing it myself. The crackelator is a bitch to get off though, I had to use a long breaker bar on mine.

Oh yah, if any of yall are interested, the TD off my XD does fit a D2. Brendan was expecting $600 for his, so mine at $400 is really a steal!

Sorry Brendan, business is business...

Not cool, not cool. Now I can't make my trailer payment. I tricked the bank though, pulled off the wheels and tossed them in the pond. Try to take it now!
