my wife came downstairs a couple of weeks ago and asked for the keys to my Rover (00'Disco loaded)... said she was going to the grocery .... she came back downstairs a few minutes after that with tears in her eyes and informed me she had hit "that green thing" (my 1967 jeep M715 5/4 ton military truck) needless to say the jeep survived unscathed ... the Rover however, had about $3500.00 worth of damage done to the drivers side ... she backed into the truck and instead of stopping and pulling forward ... she said she panicked .. turned the wheel and just kept backing up .... should i keep her? ... (of coarse i mean the Rover) ... and if so ... are the Rover Gods angry for my allowing her to drive it in the 1st place?

Sam,

What's the story behind her refering to your jeep as "that green thing"?

This is why women should not be allowed to drive. How can you possible run into a parked 5 quarter ton Jeep!

Yeah...well....THIS lady has been on vacation. I agree with Matt "shit happens!" I backed into a parked Honda Accord that was across the street...AFTER my husband said it was clear! Couldn't see the stupid thing sitting so low.

Good luck!

Matt is right, it happens...

The first week that I owned my D2, I backed out of my garage and hit a BMW that I did not know was parked behind me in my driveway. Mind you, even if I had looked in the rearview mirror or the side mirrors I still would not have been able to see it.

I cracked my rear lamp and destroyed the BMW light assembly (or whatever it was called). Repairs to that goofy car were $1500 (ouch!).

I'm not offended, I think Ron's post is pretty funny. I don't like driving, so it wouldn't bother me if it were illegal for women to drive - just as long as I had someone to drive me around!

I still want to know what's behind the "THAT green THING". We ladies usually have reasons for using those words about something.

When you post pics of your damaged rover, please post pics of the green thing too!! :-) :-)

I wish I had pictures - but a few years ago when my wife first learnt to drive (actually the day after she got her liscence) ..... she drove my isuzu trooper into a building ummmm right in. Thankfully we were all o.k. but it pretty much totalled the Isuzu and did about $60k of damage to the building.

She was pulling into the parking lot where I used to work and got her foot stuck in between the gas and brake pedal. oooops

She's driving again now - but not in the landy at the moment - trying to get her over the truck fear factor so I can get her a series.

Sam, I would threaten her with no sex for a month if she does it again! :-)

Why doesn't that ever work.

Just use it as ammo for when you have to say, "Honey, I want to buy ________ for my disco."

I agree with Matt. Think of the one or two things you really want for the Rover AND the Jeep and buy them. You got your wife in a tough spot so take advantage!!!!!!!!

Women who run through buildings should NOT drive. I agree with the men on this point! HOWEVER, some of US ('weaker sex'?!) are the BETTER drivers in our family! :-)

JAMIE, if you don't like to drive...can I have your DISCO?! :-) When I hit the Honda it did $1600 worth of damage to it and NOTHING to my truck! Hooray!

You guys know that Ron is just f***ing around because we all know his wife Alyssa is gonna kick his ass for saying that!! (Can you say right rear window?)

Regardless, I backed into a car in our driveway, it was one of our Volkswagens and my daughter had parked it across the driveway from the garage where the D2 was. Crumpled the VW fender pretty good, and I never bothered getting it fixed. We gave her the car when she graduated from College! It's her problem now! LOL

I also backed into a guy in a parking lot who came outta no where. The trailer hitch put a pretty good dent in his passenger side rear quarter panel. He jumps out of the car spitting nails and screaming at me because his kid was in a safety seat in back. When he saw how big I was he shut up even though I was apologizing. I took the blame and asked to swap license/insurance info etc and he looks at this horrible dent in his and says, Nah, it ain't that bad, forget about it and practically burns rubber on his sneakers getting back in the car and taking off!! Think maybe he had no license or insurance?

I actually backed into a motorbike once. It was parked right behind me. Couldn't see it at all didn't even know I hit it. Amazingly, no damage to the bike. I guess I actually hit it slow enough that the bike didn't fall over but just slid backwards on its kickstand a couple feet. All I heard was this sound of metal scraping so I thought I should stop. The owner (a good friend of mine) was watching this happen and was amazed his bike never fell over. So yea, shit happens but my friend is never going to let me forget it.

I hate to confess this, but I drove my Saab through my garage door -- from the inside. :-(

Feeling much safer since I traded it in for my rover.

Sam, the very proper thing you could do is to have your wife drive the 715 for a month. You are guaranteed from speeding tickets (not quite so with the stop signs, though)

Leaving my buddys house one night I backed right into his jeep, well we actually backed into one another. NO damage on my car and a big fat dent on his. Most of us have little room to talk!
