My 96 disco w/ 98k on the clock has started making an interesting sound. While driving between 50-75 mph and letting off the gas about half way there is a grinding noise coming from under the vehicle. Sounds like it is from the front. Slower speeds there is no sound. While under load no sound. Could this be the u-joints? Any help appreciated! |

Check Motor Mounts, catalytic converter hitting the frame or bearings. Kind of odd it doesnt do it under load. |

All wheel bearings new in the last 5-7K. Charles, not under full load but letting off the gas a bit. The Roto needs to be replaced could this create that sound at those speeds? |

Jay, I had the same noise at the same speeds as you are describing. It was my front drive shaft. |

I think I'll start with replacing the roto to U-joint. I am thinking of either going the tom woods route or finding a rear u-jointed shaft off a disco and get the 3 bolt flange. Any suggestions? As I have read, it is cheaper to get a u-jointed disco shaft than a tom woods. What are the pros/cons? |
