Hey Compadres:

Background:
I have the standard front fog light switch. It will be used to power my roof rack lights since I no longer have front fog lights (I have a SG front bumper).

I also have a second fog light switch that came with the rig that used to power the IPFs that came with the truck. They now contol my Hellas on the front bumper.

Of course, I have the rear fog light switch.

I have a blank spot at the bottom of this stack that can be seen in the picture below:

For this blank spot, I bought another switch:

The switch has five electrical tabs in it as you can see in the picture below:

Couple of questions:
Question #1:
Where can I get the harness that plugs into this "#2" switch? I simply need the harness and a few inches of wires.

Question #2:
Does anyone know the wiring of the switch? I would image one of the tabs is a ground, one is a hot to power the little light in the switch, one is a hot that sends power to the relay that in turn powers the light? So that's 3 of the tabs, any idea what the other two are? And which of the numbers (1-5) is which?

Thanks for the help.

I just did this, starting at the bottom (curved end) you have the constant power, then theinterior lights, the middle is blank (99% sure) then the accessory that you want to power, and the top is the ground for the switch. That should go from #1-5 in the order I listed them.

You da man!

What did you do about a harness? Or, did you just open the switch and wire direct to the tabs?

the back of the switch should have the tabs, as your 3rd picture shows. It took some driving around but I finally found wire fittings that were that small size. Once I found the right connectors, I covered them with liquid electrical tape, be sure you stick something inside of the connectors so they can still get a contact once you put them on the switch. That might not sound right but you'll see what I mean once you get started. I supposed you could solder the wires right to the switch, or wait and see if someone posts where to get the harness.

Aww.... I see. You used little connectors for each of the tabs. Good idea if I cannot find a harness.

Thanks again.

little connectors are .110 size I believe. kind of hard to find, but they are out there.

an actual connector/harness though, I have seen mentioned here but never actually ordered or talked to them: http://www.northbyrover.com/switches.htm

Call around to junk yards or to people that are parting trucks out. The cruise control, heated windscreen, fog light, etc plugs should be the one that will plug into that switch. Unplug your cruise control and see if it will plug into your fog light switch as a test. I called and was able to get 6 plugs plus about 6 inches of wire for my foglight switches from wrecked trucks. From there it is simply the wiring. Hope that helps.

I bought a few of the green wire clips and the little metal wire connectors from Alan at North by Rover. They were $2 each and a few bucks for shipping. With that you can wire the harness yourself and plug it right into the switch.

That beats trying to find/buy switches with pigtails from junk yards. I called a couple of places and the best price I got was $55 (!) for the switch, plug and wires.

These links from the tech section show which wires go to which numbered pin on the switch.

Post in the WANTED section. It will take all of 10 seconds and will pay off. I emailed a couple of "parters" on the board and had the plugs. Make them an offer. THEN use the links for wiring.

Yes, you can do all of that but as Robbie said, just pick up .110 size female disconnects at your local auto parts store. I picked up some last week at Advanced Auto so I assume everyone carries them. Then just use heated shrink tubing to keep the connectors from touching each other. Total cost less than $10.

All:

I got the switches from Land Rover Houston (Texas that is). They are about $7.00. Well, that is for Houston Land Rover Club members. I think retail on them is like $10 or $12. If you want to call up there and get some, the number is 713.293.6100. Ask for Dexter in parts. The LR part number is STC 50098.

Actually, I have an extra switch. I bought two, but have decided to only use one of them. My initial thought was to use one on the right side too, but I would have to flip it upside down, so the 2 would be upside down. That'd look dumb, so I decided against it. I'm going to get a rear fog light switch for there. When I flip it over, it won't matter since there is not a number on it. Spencer or Jim, if you want the switch, you can give me $7 and I'll send it to you since I do not need it. Email me offline. But, if anyone wants a #2 switch, Dexter at LRH can get them for you all day (just no harness--you'll have to find you own).

Also, I solved the wiring harness issue. I found several old harnesses at a place that keeps a bunch of old Land Rover stuff around. I found a couple that fit perfectly.

Thanks again for all of the help.
