Alright, I took the liberty this last holiday weekend to perform some maintenance on my 99 Disco 1. Well here is a list of things I did OME Steering Stabilizer Drained and Filled, Front and Rear Diffs Also Transfer Case (will take it in for transmission) Wired new 100W fog lights and installed brush guard Rotated Tires Put in new VSS Well now as I drive, I noticed that the speedometer and Odometer now longer work. I checked the fuses and did not notice any blown fuses and the speedometer fuse (14 I believe) also controls my clock which works fine. Well the VSS seems to be working since I have thrown no codes and the bucking at highway speed has seemed to stop. Any ideas on what the hell could be going on here??? I have taken the plug out, checked to make sure it is properly seated and everything seems ok, but still no speedo or odo. I would appreciate any help someone can throw my way. Thanks

Alright, nevermind I am a putz. After getting underneath and removing it, it must not have sat in the socket completely as it stripped slightly. After reseating it and making sure that sucker was in there completely flush, all is well. |

Personaly I wouldn't take it in for a trans fluid/filter change. I would warm the gearbox up then just drain the fluid from the drain in the bottom of the pan. Then re-top with fresh fluid. If I remember it should take between 4 and 5 quarts. Sure the shop will put in a new filter too (maybe) but unless the trans has had the ever living crap beat out of it the filter should be ok. The only ones I've seen that actualy needed a filter the trans was already cooked and a filter wasn't going to fix it anyway. And you'll save big $$. JMTCW |
