I have seen some talk about a Toyota/Rover front end. How does this work and how strong is it? My neighbor has several toyota front axles laying in his shed and I was wondering how this set up works. |

From what I've heard it is simply adapting the Toyota 3rd member to the Rover housing. This requires custom axleshafts and some drilling and tapping of the diff bolts since the patterns are not the same - but size is almost identical. The benefit of the Toy centersection is strength (even in stock form - V6 diffs are 4-pinion), traction devices incl the factory e-locker, and gears! 4.10, 4.56, 4.88, 5.29, 5.71 are all relatively inexpensive - the first 3 are factory options. Is your neighbor interested in selling a complete Toy front axle? I have an IFS Toy it'd be great under. joe |

So really there is no cost benifit to having the yota front end set-up? Seems you would be better off with the GBR set-up, right? I went with a TT front diff because I did not want to spend the money for new axle shafts to run an ARB. Allot of people said the stock axles would be fine with the TT. Well, they arn't. I broke a front, inner last weekend with a TT. I was not even on anything really hard core. I'm sure he can sell you a front axle. He could probly make you the stuff to have a four link and coils as well, or high steer. He is a toyota nut. Here is a link to some pictures of one of his trucks http://www.mountainjam4x4.com/index2.htm he is the gray/black 4-runner.

Hi all, I know this is a bit off topic, but since we are talking about Toyota, I thought you might find this piece from the BBCs programme "Top Gear". I would suggest only taking a look if you have a broadband connection: http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/prog28/hilux_broadband.ram Victor |

"Once again showing Toyota to be the second toughest vehicle made." Put down the bong. ********* Will, I don't think there is any cost-benefit to using a Toyota 3rd, unless you also plan to regear and want some traction device not available for Rover (ie the e-locker). Or for bigger lifts Toyota has high-pinion diffs, which offset nasty pinion angles. But once yuou upgrade the Rover carrier and axles, not sure there's anything but at most a nominal difference? joe |

Main advantage of the toy center is that with 4.1s or especially 4.75 you start stripping RandPs, hence toy solves that issue. Also it is 30 spline inner |

Will, Do you have a Dl or Dll? I have a Dll and was considering adding a TT to the front, for the same reasons that you did. I have an ARB in the rear, and unfortunately have broken the right rear shaft. The obstacale I was trying, however, was rather extreme. |

David, I have a d1. If I were you I would go ARB up front. As soon as I get things strightened out I will be ditching the Detroit/TT set-up and doing GBR axles and duel ARB's with 4.10's. Rob, that yota when it's sporting it's 35 BFG's, the rover can keep up. But, when he is on his 38" Swampers he kicks my a**. |
