Does anyone have an AFTERMARKET remote starter with keyless entry in their disco 2? I am thinking about installing the DEI 790 (Viper) myself and was wondering if this is even possible. BEST BUY would not install it. Is it possible to override the existing keyless entry? Does the key omit any signal to the ignition cylinder that would prevent a self starter to ignite without the key in the ignition? Any experiences would be appreciated. Professionally installed or self. |

Don't know about a DII yet, but a customer had one on his DI, and it worked fine. CarToys installed it, and when he bought his DII, they said they'd reinstall it with no problems. We pulled it out for him and I'll keep you posted when I know if they were successful. |

i have remote start on my d1 and it kick ass.it's made by bulldog alarms. it work with the factory alarm/keyless entry.all i do is unlock it with the factory remote, and it fires up...great for cold mornings. but lets be honest it adds to the pimp factor as well. |

If you want a warm engine, warm cab and demisted/defrosted windows then install a webasto engine pre-heater, which can be operated on a timer, remote or via a mobile phone. Warming the engine by letting it tick over doesn't do it a lot of good (low oil pressure) and it can do your catalyst in quickly. Pr-heaters use a small amount of fuel to heat up the cooling water to running temperature, pump the water round the block until that's warm then turns the demister up full to clear the windows. I fitted a Webasto unit about three years ago and have used it every day, I would not be without it. You also have the advantage of only ever starting a warm engine, at almost full power, which does wonders for engine life. |

Michael, I bought the pre-heater about two and a half years ago, the unit cost about 400 (US$600?) and paid a good independant Land Rover mechanic 150 (US$220) to fit it. It's a fairly straightforward operation, but it would have taken me all day, and at the time I was very busy at work and could afford the cash rather than the time. I am in no way affiliated to Webasto, but I would not have a car without one now. |
