I know this has been discussed before; but, I could not find the answer in a search.

Will 245 75 16 fit a stock 99 D1 without any trimming?

My tire choices are between Firestone Destination MT or Bridgestone Deuler MT. They will be dedicated off road/snow tires. Any opinions? Anything better out there?

Thanks,
Brian

Brian: with stock suspension be prepared to trim with that size....as for tire brand, I have a knee jerk adverse reaction to Firestone, Bridgestone its japanese parent is better... I've seen the Dunlop RT wheel well and handle snow and ice extremely well, but wonder if the GY MTR might be in your budget

Chris,
Price really is not an issue. I just want a tire that will work. There does not appear to be many tires in the stock 235 70 16 size. I guess I'll go with the 225 75 16. They have about the same diameter and only slightly narrower.
I just don't want to waste money and buy a bad tire and be stuck with them.

Thanks for the advice.

Brian, I have stock suspension and went with the 245/70-16 in BFG ATs...no trimming, they stuff nicely with out rubbing when your suspension articulates. They look nice too, if that is important.

Chris, have you gone off road with the BFG's? How are they in snow? I figure I'll have these tires for about 2 years so I want to make the right choice. I'm new to this four wheeling thing.
Thanks,
Brian

yes, I've been off road many times with them. They're great. I live in the desert and havent had an opportunity to use them in the snow yet. On this web site they are probably the most popular along with GY MTRs and BFG MTs

I was the shop foreman at a Big O Tires, then Good Year, here in Utah till just recently. The BFG All Terrain was definately one of the preffered tires for the snow season. The MT's are great in snow, but lowsey on ice. The only MT we sold that didn't get complaints on ice was the Good Year MTR. Even then, customers generally mentioned they preffered their old All Terrains for ice.

On my rovers I run the 245/75/16 Micheline LTX AT, which has had excellent traction, but a shorter than hoped tread life, especially for the price. On the other disco I have Big O's new Sport Touring in a 255/ 70/ 16, which is more of an on road tire, that is made to still handle itself in the dirt. I have fun with that one, but wouldn't go mudding in it! I've also ran the newley redesigned Big O AT on my truck, which was an all around good tire.

As for firestone and Bridgestone, I'de stay away from firestone all together. The Bridgestone buyers were pretty loyal to their tire, but they generally would start to cup pretty early if not constantly rotated, so customers rarely got the full life out of thier tire.
If yoru just going for snow/ off road, the mud terrains are great, but if there's icey on road driving involved, I'de look at an all terrain.
Good Luck,
Ry
