Hey guys two quick issues I was looking for some opinions.... 1. In the morning (when cold) my transmission is slipping pretty badly. Only happends for about ten seconds or so & the it catches and is fine. Does this mean that my trannie bands are totally worn? The fluid is newer and full. Is this the sign of a trannie ready to go. What do you guys think? 2. I really need to re-seat my abs sensors. My abs is really going crazy. I have no idea how to do this. Any help is appreciated.... joe |

On my 95, the transmission slips slightly for 1 or 2 blocks on a cold day. The situation got significantly better after replacing the ATF and filter. It's -30 Celcius here lately and I was able to eliminate the slipping if I let the car idle for 5-10 minutes *AND* before driving off, put the car in gear ("D" or "R") for about 30-60 seconds.

Here's my question and statment. How do I know when my transmission is slipping? what are the signs, sound or feel? Statement: I was told never change the transmission fluid (oil) because its all a commercial idea to create a money flow. Since it is sealed and not burned when in use, it then never has to be changed. I was told that if you do change it, you are likely to have a trans problem down the line because is losses the original lub that settled to then have to re-work it self in to re-settle. the processes of resettling causes trans damange. what do you guys think of this? any comments??? |

Joseph, don't worry, it might not even be your transmission. I have the same problem, and I could have sworn it was my transmission. So, a while back, when a buddy had his truck at my house, we started doing some comparisons to locate any possible problems. After a while, we got to the TPS, checked it out, and it was shot. Wondering if that was the culprit all along, we stuck his TPS in my truck, and I drove around all night with no problems. Transmission is just terrific. TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. Check it out first. P.S. It's 60 bucks for a new TPS, and I can't even bring myself to post the compartively horrific sum for a new transmission. |
