Hello all, I just finished the CD player install. Thanks to those that gave me the heads up on the factory amp location. Is there a way to have the stock sub work with an aftermarket radio? Thanks Drew |

Yes. First, take out the subwoofer from the back door. You will find a very small amp back there. I believe the color coding for those wired are the same as the front speaker, at least they are on my D2. Look at the wires leading into the amp (sub amp)--distinguish between the power and speaker wires. Now, you will need a meter to test which wires are hot. I think you will find the speakers are and the power is not. You will need to look closely at the wires around the main amp (which I believe you bypassed). See what color the power wire and remote wire for the rear amp are and find them around the main amp. Then simply connect them into the main power for the stereo and the remote. This will allow the amp to turn on with the radio. Another option would be to bypass the rear amp and just power them with the decks power. This may be the easiest, but they aren't full range speakers so I do not know how this will sound. |

Thanks Matt, Do you just do an inline splice on the main power wire to the power wire for the amp? If so will it draw current away from the main power wire on the radio? Bypassing the rear amp and powering all the speakers with the decks power does not sound to good. It sounds like the surround speakers only have high and mid range. Drew |

The amp back there is tiny, I really don't think you would need to worry about it taking power away from the radio. If you want, wire into the battery for power and still use the stereos remote for the amps turn on. But seriously, I don't think it would be a big deal. You may have to play around with it a little, I dont really remeber how exactly it was done( we are talking like six years ago), but I am giving you the general idea. |
