Disco II. The service manual describes the coolant drain plug as being on the bottom of the engine block. I do not have a ramp or lift, just a wee rolling pad thing and a headlamp. Last time I looked I was clueless as to which plug is the coolant drain plug, and didn't feel like randomly unscrewing things to see what, if anything, came out the hole.

So, question is... how best can I recognise it? What size socket fits it, and can anyone give a better description or even picture of location than the service manual gives...

Thanks!!!

Donald,

I can't remember the exact details, but the plug is on the drivers side (US trucks). Here is a niffty trick to help keep you dry: The plug can be accessed via a long, long extension from the wheel well (behind the tire). Remember, it'll spew out of there in a hurry.

But before you do this, take out the little plastic cooling hose plug located on one of the cooling hoses near the top of the engine near the radiator. Be gentle with the plug, but it should come right on out. This will also aid you when you drain your coolant from the radiator.

Its probably a 13mm. Darn near everything else on that truck is a 13!

A distinguishing characteristic of the plug is that is's 4 sided, rather than 6 or 12. I don't remember the exact size, but it's 1/4inchish, maybe a little bigger.

Max is right though, the coolant niagra falls out of there.
