Hello fellow dwebbers, I am heading to Southern CA on business next week. Planning to do a day hike this coming Sunday either San Gorgonio or San Jacinto. Any winter hikers out there interested?

Also if anyone has local info like road closures or weather updates etc that is appreciated!

Speaking of fellow hikers, I am looking for some here in the East as well. Most of the guys (and girls) I currently backpack with aren't into off-roading, and that sucks. I need friends that will enjoy both with me!

Sorry Aaron, I'm not hijacking your thread, I just wanted to throw that in. To correlate my post to your thread, how about you come hike with me in the East sometime, and I will hit you up wherever you live? Sound good?

Damn, Aaron, I have things going on all weekend. But you may find some useful information at http://www.sgwa.org/ (especially the bulletin board.) Have fun, be careful - one guy died on San Gorgonio this week, another's missing on San Antonio. Snow conditions will be very hard and icy. I'd bring an ice ax.

Aaron,

it isn't likely you make it to San Gorgonio and back in one day. It is often a two-day hike during the summer time - now there's plenty of snow there.

wish I could join you,

peter

Peter, I did San G this past summer as a day hike. It was tough but took about 8hrs round trip. And a half hour was spent trying to coax a rattler off the trail! :-)

I did San Jacinto as a day hike in early 2003 when it was completely snow covered and didn't need crampons. But the Jacinto hike is easier than Gorgonio. I'll have a go at it if I can get a rental car to the trailhead. If not, I'll go over to Jacinto and do that again.

Christopher, thanks for the links. I've been on that board a few times before. Pretty decent.

Adam, send me an email sometime and let me know where you are on the east coast. I'm in Concord, NC.

Thanks guys,
Aaron

TENNESSEE, BABY!

Sorry, just proud; I was in Nashville for school, but I transferred to TTU in Cookeville. Permanent residency in Sparta.

What about you?

Aaron, I flew over both peaks yesterday - plenty of snow on them... Good luck!
