I replaced the right rear stop light (with a bulb from the dealer with the 2 contacts). It works when the lights are on, but when the brake is applied it goes out? Please help.

Did it work before you replaced the bulb?

Try another bulb?

Maybe try the bulb from the left side.
For example, take the bulb from the right and put it in the left. Take the bulb from the left and put it in the right.

What happens now? Does the light on the left go out when you press the brake pedal or does it continue to happen only on the right side?

Mine does this too. Does the entire light go off when you press the brakes or does the brake light just not go on?

The contacts for the brake light bulb housing are very touchy. There is a little metal ring that sits around the light bulb opening that is designed to have a little spring to it. When a bulb is put into the socket this "ensures" that the bulb (or rather the part that holds the bulb) will contact the little metal ring. On older rigs the ring loses its spring and sometimes doesn't contact completely.

At least this is the case with mine. You may want to check that first.

I had this issue on my D1. The bulb would work but when I hit the brakes, it would'nt work. I played with it until it would sit in the holder just right so it would work again, but soon as I hit a bump, it would stop. Ended up getting a new holder from the stealers for $18 that fixed the problem. Good luck - Mark.

I had the same problem ,the bulb holder was not fully engaged and tough to get to with the jump seats in place. It finally seated properly and have not had a problem since.

I have the opposite problem right now. Bulbs are not illuminated by braking unless I have the lights on....without the lights, I only have the upper stop lamp. And I will have to pass inspection soon.

Pete, how did you get into the holder area around the jump seats? I have been looking at it and it looks like a p.i.t.a.!!!

It is not a fun task and I don't know if I would be lucky enough to get it in place again. You need to have the jump seat positioned somewhere between open and closed while laying on your back and snaking your arm though the jump seat frame and into light area. I think the previous owner ran into the same problem and just did the best they could which resulted in the bulb rattling loose.

Great...thanks anyway! :-) I'll have to work at it. I wonder if there is a way to disconnect the jump seat arm easily?
