I was wondering if it was possible to put D2 fender flares on my 95' D1. I just got off the phone with a dealership, and the parts guy didn't seem all that certain. I'm sure they would need some modification, but what i'm really trying to get at is what level of modification (at 140 bucks a piece, i'm not sure i want to take the chance of messing them up) Have any of you done this to your Disco? Or heard of anyone who has? Or is this an all together bad idea, that could be solved with an equivalent aftermarket product?

Land Rover makes some for the D1, they include the side moulding. I had them on my D1. They look really nice. Personally, I would not drop that much cash on somthing that might not fit.picture

I actually posted a question similar to this in the non-tech section (yes it is technical and should be here).

Glen,
Look in the tech section, under, oddly enough, fender flares, there is a good write up on what goes into it-basically get out the dremel or sawzall and go to town, after having marked what you're going to remove of course.
Why are you thinking flares (I had a set awhile back that I got rid of b/c I didn't think I'd need them. Then I went to MAR, decided I wanted to go 3" and 33's and now I almost wish I had them-that being said I trimmed carefully with my dremel and cut off wheels and it looks pretty good.

Bottom line-it can be done, if you need to do it, but its an involved process.

The geniune discovery 1 fender flare kit pictured above is available from www.dap-inc.com. 300 odd bucks. I think its more moulding than flares tho.

The also sell real "flares" that allow for much bigger tyres. They're made from fiberglass and require trimming. They look really good in my oppinion, here are some pics and instalation tips from east coast rover;

Yes, D2 flares can fit onto a D1. With only slight modifications. I don't have them on mine but the are on the list. Go to northbyrover.com he has D2 flares on his ~95. They do look good.

Also look at Andre Dietsche's Gallery. His D2 flares with 33 inchers look great. http://www.discoweb.org/andredietsche/index.htm

Atlantic British also has a set of flares for the D1, I think they run about $299 for the set! They are not as wide as the D2 but should fit the D1 perfectly. I am thinking about getting some but actually I am waiting for my girlfriend to buy them for me!!! Hope she reads this soon

To completely hi-jack the post here, but I started reading the journal entries from the northbyrover web site and there is an entry about how the US customs agency wouldnt let the family bring their "just bought sandwich meat into the country". Given the recent mad cow disease case I thought this was kinda funny/ironic. Now, back to the fender flares!
