My '96 disco's manual antenna was beat up by a tree. I bought the replacement. Any pointers on replacing the antenna? I think the only way to access the antenna is through the top of the wheel well...am I wrong? Any instructions or pointers will be greatly appreciated. chris in dc

take the plastic cover off of the inside of the wheel well and you will gain access just fine. Remove the cheap plastic tabs carefully or have some extras on hand.

I use the $10 replacement from autozone.

Where can you get new plastic tabs? I tried removing those suckers with a flat head screwdriver but they are in there tight. I managed to pull the plastic cover but I definitely need to pull those tabs out to replace the antenna. I am just worried that I might not find those plastic tabs if I take them all off. Any suggestions???

I changed mine and was hard because I did not want to break anything and replace it later so I just openned it enough to push my hand through and make adjustments. It worked, that was the hardest part. Every thing else was just following the old ant line and attaching a string to it. The idea was to get the new ant cord to follow the string as I pulled. without it, it would then be impossible without removing the under wheel cover. Good luck.

I think mine screw in, but am not 100%, its been awhile. I broke a few and just found an equivelent at the local auto store.

Antenna wire is under the golve box, there is a panel there on D1. IYou can unplug it there and pull it on through.

Make sure you tie a long, stout piece of twine on the end of the old antenna wire before you pull it out. Do not pull the twine all the way out with the wire. Then, tie the twine to the end of the new antenna wire and use it to pull the new wire into place.

Chris,

I did my 96 not to long ago. Atlantic British has a great article:

The hardest time I had was getting the old one out. I needed some locking vice grips because I was doing it on my own.

I took the mudguard/fender off... sounds dramatic but it was easy. Just bolts and screws, detach the indicator lights and off it comes. 10 minutes thinking and 30 minutes work, no grazed knuckles and no extra dollars and time to find the replacement plastic bits. It worked for me.
