I topped off with a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer after a recent oil change. I noticed that the engine gives out a louder sound.

Is this normal?

I checked my oil fluid level periodically, and there are times that the dipstick shows that the oil is low when engine is cold or just right when the engine is hot.

Is this normal?

ray,

i have used the lucas for ages and never had any of the conditions you have seen.

I also cant see where the additive could cause what you are describing

What Thom said.

It shouldnt get any louder, thats for sure. Raymond - are you sure that oil was properly changed , i.e no air pockets and stuff? What kind/weight of oil you used?

That's weird. It was when I add Lucas oil that the engine sound became louder especially when the engine is cold. Nevertheless, the truck runs good. It's just when I first start the engine after a long rest, that's when you can really hear the engine growl, not purr.

Brian - i do. Shifts smoother and less loud from what i can tell, but then before i put it in - truck was from used lot, thus - in pretty shitty condition.

Thom - you dont want to know what was in the all oil lines (tansmission, transfer and engine) when i poured it out.. I dont think lucas touched any part of that vehicle before :-) And it did shift seriously bad... Then again it could be just me :-)

Raymond - 20/50 is a bit off, imho.. 5/30 or 10/30 is more like it.. As of loud sound - dunno.. can be lots of things. Including air pockets... Also try to check out breather on crankcase - it could be dirty enough to force engine to suffocate and work harder.. But then i am not an expert, thats for sure. Just talking from my personal experience - mine quited down after replacing oil with synth Royal Purple 5w30 + lucas stabilizer + K&N oil filter, after reoiling bits, cleaning filters and after swapping engine belt to quiter one :-)
Oh right.. and pour some of Lucas stuff directly into crankcase, if you will get it open.
