I have a '94 disco and have changed its oil since new with Mobil 1 every 3000 miles. This formula has keep my engine reasonably trouble free. However, since reading the many messages here about the propensity of our beloved V8 to sludge up, I have begun to wonder if a higher detergent oil should be used. Specifically, Shell's Rotella T synthetic 5W-40. This oil has an API Service rating of CH-4/SL (higher than Mobil 1) and is approved for nearly all diesel and gasoline engines on the road. Would this oil be a wise year around choice? Papillon |

FWIW, I just switched over to this oil earlier this year for a couple of our vehicles (99D2, 93 Mazda Protege), including our diesel MF-362, 4-cyl. We're gonna run it year round as we're here in VA. I changed it out after a few hours use (2K miles in the vehicles), then on the second fill, have left it in and will change it again when spring comes. It stays clean on the dipstick a long time, not sure if that means anything or not. YMMV. |
