This past weekend while out wheeling every one tried every possible way to get my disco into low lock- wouldnt happen- high lock yes, low lock no way. This is a brand spankin new transfer case, is there something that could have happened when they installed it? is there something else I should try? I have done everything short of building an aluminum foil pyramid over top of the truck and driving in counterclockwise circles. I dont really want to go back to the mechanic and get charged 70.00 an hour. Thanks |

If it is a new Tcase and the linkage is free - then they probably did not hook the the low range interlock solenoid when the Tcase was installed. You have to hook that up so it will allow you to shift to low (or just remove the stupid goddamn solenoid entirely - only automtatic equipped trucks came with that solenoid). Bill |

So do I have to have the solenoid since mine is an automatic? How do I know what it is, will it be some dangling reject part or what? |

If you want - just remove the entire solenoid - it doesn't do shit anyway (except keep you from getting into low range ) You'll most likely be looking for an unplugged electrical connector unless the solenoid has gone bad. It will be very difficult to see/get to from underneath. Console and shfter housing normally would have to come out to get to it. You could try reaching up around the rear - passenger side of the top of the tcase for the connector. But - if someone else did the work for you - I'd let them deal with it unless you want to remove the solenoid Bill |
