I have a 2002 Disco II SE, What are the chances I have the heating elements already in the seats? Want to install the new plate and switches and I was hoping to find out without pulling the seat apart. Thanks.

Why not look for wires coming out of the seat or unconnected plugs in the center console?

So if I lift the switch plate and the connectors are there then the elements are also definitely there? Thanks.

Hawkins they are paired with the window wires behind the window switch plate. Four screws take a look.
I would bet you do have them , I have a 03 SE that I just installed the heated seat switches. Super EASY!-Jim

It should be the same switch as the hazard lights. Pull that switch out of your dash... plug it in to the heated switch leads (under the window switch plate). Then you know before spending $$

Leather seats should have the elements in already cloth seats need them added. Both will need the 2 switches and the Cover plate

I added them to mine about 6 months ago using teh instructions on dosco2.web. Takes about 2 hours per seta if you need to add the elements, if you dont it takes about 10 mins to get both working

CHeck the connectors hanging down from the back of the seat where the base and back join

Also the heater elements for the Leather and Cloth seats are different and have different part numbers if you need to add them

Elements are about $50 each if you need to buy and the seat base and seat backs are different

Good luck, I love my warm bum on cold mornings, great mod. Really good when you come out of one cave, very cold and soggy in your wetsuit and need to drive to the next cave

The wiring is present regardless of the presence or absence of heater elements.

Only way to conclusively verify that you have seat heaters is to lift up the upholstery and take a peek.

Leather seems to be the factor of heating elements or not. If you got it, you got it. If you don't, you don't.

So can you add heated seats to a '96, I know it wasn't an option then, so the wirin won't be there, but if there's anywhere to get a kit to do it, it would be really nice in this cold weather

Ryan,
Heres a link about adding the heating element. It looks like it could be put in anything you can take the seat covers off of.

Lewis,

Ryan has a 1996 D1. The instructions and part numbers you provided won't work for his truck.

Right, I just posted the info if he wanted to adapt something to work while keeping factory parts. The heating elements look like they could be used on any seat you can get the seat cover off of. I have been thinking of adding them to my '68 Jeepster.

Craig, it sounds as if the heated seats were available only in the D2, Correct?

The D2 elements for the cloth seats just need a +12v feed and an earth so it would be really easy to get them working on anything, they have the thermostat built into the elements

The elements for the leather seats are different and dont include the thermostat (its already in the seat)

So if your gonna fit these in a D1 or any other vehicle get the elements for cloth seats

I am about to purchase a D1, and was planning on installing the seat heaters using the walkthrough in the tech section on this site. Now I am not sure if that walkthrough applys to the D1. Does anyone know? Also are those part numbers listed still available?

Okay, cloth and leather are discussed, what about the 'fake' leather (vinyl)? Vehicle is a 2001 SD. Thanks,

Ryan, you can also go to a reputable aftermarket shop to have heated seats installed. It should cost around $300 or less.
John, it's sporadic. Some cars do, some cars don't.

John,

My 01D2 with Duragrain interior didn't come with heater elements.
