I own a 99 Disco II with the RF garage door opener. The opener works only every once in a while. I have had it work properly < 4 times in 9 months. Does anyone have a suggestion or two? I have tried varying the distance to the garage, the angle of approach, which button is programmed, the speed while approaching, and the gear of the transmission but can find no common variable. The RF opener is the style that is NOT a part of the mirror. It is mounted in the overhead plastic just below the moon-roof switches. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There are two diff types of receivers, on has a set code on the opener, the other rolls the code automatically, each time the door is opened, the code changes for security reasons the garage door opener manufactures this type, which is yours?

Check out www.homelink.com, they're the manufacturer.

Is there any way to know if the garage door opener uses a random or constant code. I asked the guy who bought the door if it was an auto-roller and he said it was not. I opened up a transmitter that came with the garage door and it had one of the switched-boxes to set the code with.

the homelink webpage will have a lot of info. When you "teach" the homelink, make sure that the battery in the original remote is fresh, weak battery may not properly send the signal to the homlink unit. Secondly, when teaching the homelink, place the remote right up next to the homelink to ensure a good signal.

Garage door openers with auto-rolling technology are getting to be the norm. Again, the homelink webpage has a lot of info. When you teach the homelink with a rolling code garage door opener, the light will blink rapidly and the garage door will not open. You have to then "teach" the garage door by pressing the program button on the actual opener/motor assembly. From then on the homelink button will blink really fast when activating the garage door. Older systems that do not have rolling code technology will have a solid light on when opening the door, and you do not have to train the opener/motor to opperate the homelink. Once the homelink is trained with a constant code, it should immediately be able to open the door.

A final note, check to make sure that the recieving antenna on the garage door motor/assembly is unrolled and sticking out. If the antenna is scrunched up or partially blocked, it might not be reciving the signal from the homelink well.
