All you "Rover experts" probably know this already but, I found out that on my 95' Dico the routing for the serpentine belt can be run two different ways while the pulleys are rotating in the correct manner. I searched for information on it but didn't find anything. Just thought I would share it with every one.

Tom, If you run it the wrong way, there's not enough wrap on the alternator, and you start to have other problems show up, like the alternator not fully charging, the tach acting wacky, etc.

That could be. All I know is I ran it (wrong) for about six months with no problems. |

Rupert, It does if you have a DII. Tom, A strong battery, a new belt, a well-performing alternator, etc., can cover the issues associated with a mis-routed belt. Given time, though, it would take its toll. -L

What I have found interesting to note about all Serp-belt systems is that at least one component in the routing will counter-rotate to all other components. Example, your water pump spins reverse of all other components. How did I notice this odd, seldom expressed fact, by purchasing a standard metal radiator fan to replace my existing plastic fan. I could not figure why on earth I continued to overheat, after two thermostats, rodding, new viscous coupler, still overheated hmmm. Only after I had a chance, while radiator was out, I cleaned the AC condenser, reassembled entire system, started truck and realized the damn air was forcing through the front grill. Popped-off the fan, reversed it, same thing. Why, because the water pump rotates opposite and you need a reversed pitch-fan to accommodate the rotation. A bit of cooling trivia.
