Does anyone have the instructions for cleaning the stepper motor. There was a post a few days ago which outlined this but I cannot find it. It is also no longer in the FAQ portion of the Tech section. Thanx in advance |

I understand the carb cleaner and towel dry part, but I need to know the proper removal technique in order to clean it. Do you remove the bolts to release flange or does it unscrew from the flange etc? |

Clay, Unhook the four pin connector, then just unscrew it from the intake plenum (sp?). If your disco is a 95 or less the IAC motor is on the passanger side of the intake, if it is a 96 or newer it can be found closer to the driver side of the intake. |

Andrew: Thanx for the info. I tried what you suggested, but the stepper will not twist out. It will only move slightly (less than 1mm)in either direction. What would you suggest next? |

It doesn't "twist" out (96). Unbolt the two hex head screws and it should just FALL out. Be carefull when taking it out to not lose or break the little gasket that is made out of a hard fiber material. Are the screws completely removed? |

Clay, Yeah mine was pretty tough to get off as well. You can try to remove it when the engine is hot. Maybe the heat will expand the threads just enough to break it free. If that does not work losen it as much as possible and spray some penetrating oil or carb cleaner on the threads. Penetrating oil would most likely work better but I don't know how the stepper motor will react to it. If you do use the penetrating oil just make sure to clean off the stepper motor really well with the carb cleaner. A little persistence will get it off. |
