Just bought a 95 disco I it has michelin XPC's on rear and spare, but Goodyear Fortera's on front. Fortera's have at least 2500 miles on them. I was thinking about purchasing three more for the rear and spare. Could there possibly be some internal damage because of the two new tires(front) and the two old tires(rear). There are currently no noises and i haven't driven it but just from place of purchase to home (50 miles).

Much appreciate any info

It's a fairly common practive to have two different sets of tires on a vehicle, usually because the owner didn't rotate, or allign enough and wore out either the fronts or rears faster. It would be ideal to replace them all at once, but does no harm at all, as long as the fronts have the same amount of wear as each other, and the rears have the same amount of wear as each other. When you do purchase new tires, I'de recommend having them put on the front of the vehicle, and having the older ones rotated to the rear. It also never hurts to have them check the allignment while it's there, to get the maximum life out of your tires. Good luck man!

It has always been my understanding that with an AWD or all time 4wd that the tires should all be the same (size make model etc).

Generally it's a good idea, but even on an all wheel drive, one pair will wear out faster than the other. Especially where the newer tires on Ryan's are pretty low mile, it wouldn't be any different just replacing two now, than it would be when the tires get higher mile and his fronts are a little more warn. Landrovers are actually very good at wearing their tires consitantly, so this won't be as much as a difference, but for example, a Suberu WRX will usually always wear the front tires in half the time as the rears if not constantly rotated and checked for allignment.

I'm not saying that it's not a good thing to replace them all at once, just that they are going to wear differently anyways, and it can handle it just fine without any danger to the truck or to the tire, of corse unless you let it wear down too much.

When i worked at Big O, we would daily replace just one tire, due to the road hazard warranty, when sometimes all 3 other tires on the car were bald, AWD or not, and mechancially it is considered fine to do, no liability for Big O to do it.

When i was at good year, we always recommended replacing all tires at once, but it was something we were told to do in salesman training seminars, just to sell more tires.
