Got a few inches here in the Burg....up through the Shenandoah Valley (my husband is there) and my sister in Raleigh said they are getting some too! I love it! Too bad I'm stuck at work and can't go play in the Rover. |

Sue, how much did you get down there? We only got about an inch, but it's pretty slick. I'm going into WV (Franklin)later today, I wonder what they got. |

I'm saying 2-3 inches. It's still snowing though...that fine misty type. I walked over to campus and it was covering my shoes in parts! We are supposed to drive down to Raleigh tonight...it's still snowing pretty heavily there. My sister has a BMW 3-series and is thinking she might have to leave it at work! |

Here at West Glacier we have over 3 feet of snow on the ground and more sure to follow. It was minus 28 degrees on Monday morning, minus 22 on Tuesday morning. A balmy plus 14 right now. And it is still early in the winter. By the way, the Discovery handles the snow just fine. |

AWWWW ... I LOVE GLACIER! It is one of my favorite spots on EARTH! Are you in Kalispell?! We went in late May and were only able to cross the GTS pass half-way...so we hiked in at Many Glacier and headed to Grinell Lake/Glacier. I bet it is gorgeous. But COLD! I contemplated moving out there, but I'm not sure I would make it through my first winter!!!It's cold enough for me here!! |

Man, I need to start paying more attention to where folks on this board are from ... I grew up in Lynchburg, and have been in the Blacksburg area for the past 9 years or so. My wife and I are now in Ripplemead, about 5 miles from the WV border on 460, right at the New River. We had 4 inches on the ground when we left the house this morning, and it's still coming down. I have a great view out of the 3rd story of my research building here in Blacksburg. Howdy to Susannah, Patrick, and any and all in the area! Would love to know about any groups locally, especially around Blacksburg that are Rover friendly/oriented. -Alan |

We've got about 2-3 inches or so here in Lex, supposed to keep doing this all day. Can't wait to take the Rover up House Mountain tonight. Any Rovers in the Valley area, I'd love to get together sometime and go play in the mud or rocks! |

We got about two inches or so down here in Ktown. Wet snow, roads are fine for even a porsche if he is careful, but somehow the idiots down here manage to run off the road regardless. I saw some dumbass in a lifted Dodge Dakota doing donuts in a parking lot--needless to say he lost control and slipped into a ditch, requiring a gray RRC to winch him out. |

I've been itching to get out again, now that I have a Rover once more. Due to financial constraints, I think I have to wait until spring thaw, too much money has been spent in the past from ice and snow related issues (I've broken headlights when breaking ice, I shot the oil pan seal on my D90 due to really cold water hitting it, which let water in, which blew 1 main bearing and 2 rod bearings, and I lost the right side cat. due to cold water on a hot exhaust (I actually SAW and retrieved red hot catalyst go flying out of the exhaust, had to replace muffler, too)) ... all of that on Butt Mountain in Giles Co ... now that I'm on a different truck, I think I'll wait until the ice goes away. Still, know some of the good trails, and would like to try Potts Mtn in the Disco once they open it back up in the spring. -Alan |

Susannah, I live in Columbia Falls; my office is at the Park headquarters in West Glacier; I am the construction manager for the renovation of the Many Glacier Hotel project. GTSR is closed for the winter, so are most campgrounds. Most of the trails are open to those who want to hike in winter conditions. If you were here in May, you might have seen our work as we were then feverishly preparing for the summer opening of the hotel. You also missed our big fire season; quite an eventful summer just for that. Since I've been here (since late March 2003), I've seen temperature ranges from over 100 this past summer to minus 28 this week. And more snow than I've ever experienced before in either St. Louis or Kansas City. |

Hey, Clif, Hear you and the club will be having a Tech Session next weekend. Wish I could be there. Those were always some of the most fun times we all had together. Hope you are doing well. |

I agree GP..I'm ready to go back! I was there in May of 2001 actually (after my graduation from college) and absolutely fell in love. I am planning on returning, hopefully to stay at the Many Glacier Lodge, perhaps next summer. We will certianly have to look you up! |

Well, come on out! We will be continuing renovation of Many Glacier through next summer, so be prepared for that. Ask for a room in Annex 2 as work is mostly complete in that part of the hotel. Other areas will still be under renovation. Not much off-road driving in the park. (There is one dirt road, but it is not a big challenge except when wet.) Hiking is great in Glacier. Come prepared for some magnificent hiking trails; Highline Trail, Iceberg Lake Trail, many others. Views are awesome! |

Thanks! My husband has never been out west and we are really looking forward to it. I couldn't believe how amazing it was when we hiked down from Many Glacier parking area to Grinnell Lake...and I only saw a tiny portion of the park. I was absolutely awestruck. What a wonderful job and place to live!! |
