I live in Lincolnshire (30 min. north of the city) and was wondering if anyone knows of a good independent LR shop? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Curt, try posting on the CLRC Board. I'm sure some of those folks can steer you right.

That's an easy hour from Lincolnshire in good traffic....If you work in the loop might not be too bad. Jump on the el and you're there.

I never got a good vibe from that place - Customers cars parked along Willow unsecured. Stripped out series trucks always blocking the entrance. And their shop looks like a bomb went off in it.

I like LR Lake Bluff myself. Good service, close and they have disco loaners. I got sick of hunting down so called local LR experts and just went back to the dealer. They know the truck, do great work and have always been a very good experience.

eric, you are so right. I love Knauz and I have bought many autos from their BMW and LR dealerships over the past ten years. I just can't get over $110/hr. for service. They do treat me great though. They just did $600 in repairs UNDER WARRANTY when I had 52,000 miles on my '01 disco. I think you answered my question...you get what you pay for.

Curt,

They're real good. You can save some money do the fluid changes yourself and sourcing the parts yourself. I mean 2k for a 30k mile was a bit much to stomach. The parts are less than a third of that.

I like the fact that they know my d-90 now and give it a little extra attention. The head mechanic is the only one who works on it, and actually calls me up with questions, ect..

Next time you're wheelin, let me know...

Eric

I had all sorts of problems at Knauz with my lifted disco2. Try http://winnetka.fieldslandrover.com/index.asp
they have been great to me with no hassels.
For parts call Nathan @ Discountrovers.com

That's too funny. The exact opposite happened to me. I guess it is luck of the draw sometimes with service at the dealers. Both do excellent mechanical work, seems both may need some customer service work depending on the customer!
