Tons of threads on this topic, some are even active right now.

I am pretty sure that 245/75R16 BFG AT or MT would be a good fit. I know for sure that this size will work on a slightly lifted vehicle (1-2") with slight trimming on the rear part of the wheel well, typically on the part of the body that is curved under for finish. You can also relocate the fender and pull it out a bit.

Lets see if someone chimes in that is running these on a stock disco with no lift (I assume you do not have lift). If you can manage it, these tires would also do you well when you do get a moderate lift although many times people go 235/85R16 when they get additional lift.

Likely the 245/75R16 would only rub under compression when offroad.

For this tire you are likely looking about $150 installed with warranty at Big O. Running at high pressure in these tires you are very likely to get >55k miles with moderate offroad use.

Josh, Like Brian said, this has been a fairly common debated topic. Here's a good thread to start with.

You might want to search the bulleting board archives (look in the top right corner for the "search" link.

Just my perception, the most popular tires on this board seem to be the BFG ATs (I have these), BFG MTs, GY Wrangler MTRs, Dunlop Radial Rover RTs. These might be a good place to start. Many variables here though, such as will you do primarily highway driving, light off road, moderate off road, etc etc.

As for tire sizes, the tech section has a helpful guide to tire sizes. I believe the 225/75/16s (I had these) and 245/70/16s will fit with out any trimming or other modification to the vehicle.

Good luck, let us know what you get.
