Is the handle stuck, if so, remove the LR logo using a flathead screw driver (it just unclips from the bottom of the logo and can be clipped back in). Then see if your handle is in the open position by pushing down on the handle through the logo hole. If this is the case, you need to lubricate the handle hinge and spring which you can see through the hole.

Good luck, Jim

It sounds like the latch mechanism is broken. It is a pain in the ass to fix. The back door panel has to be remove to access the latch mechanism which is mounted on the inside of the door which can only be accessed through a hole which is small and on the opposide of where the latch is connected. The dealer tech had a hell of a time doing it and it had to be done...replace twice in a row due to a defective part. I watch this senior master tech struggle and swear a twice as he did the install. Good luck if you're going to do it your self. One way to tell if it is the locking latch mechanism is when you put your key in the key hole, it feels very loose if I remember correctly.

If you take the lock mech out you will find that there is a very small spring that has snapped. Its only 15mm in diameter and only a single loop.
If it has snapped and fallen into the bottom of the door you wont really see where the new spring should go. Sometimes they snap and stay in situ.
LR dont sell just a spring but if you have the two halves you can either make one or get one from a hardware store.
Unfortunatly i haven't got any pix and its difficult to explain where this spring goes.
cheers
