Just got replacement rear view mirror in from magna donnelly. How do you take the rear view mirror off of the windshield? Thanks in advance.

Drew, it lifts straight up (not towards you) and comes off the bracket glued to the windshield. You may have to use a rubber mallet if it has never been removed before.

I just did this , this morning, on my 96. Remove the plastic headliner pockets. That thing where you jam all your maps and junk, above the sun visors. When it drops down, it will be hanging by the wires that power your interior light, just above the mirror. Unplug the 2 connectors for the light and the whole plastic piece will drop free. You can now see the connector for the mirror. It's attached to a little metal bracket. I found it easier to remove that brackt first, then separate the connectors. Getting the mirror off is a matter of sliding it's base downward, parallel to the windshield, until it snaps free. It's very tight. Once the mirror is off, you can pull the wire and connector through the headliner. My wire was stuck in there with a piece of tape. Re-assembly is the reverse. Good luck !

That's right the mirror does slide downwards...sorry about that!
