My '96 Disco had an intermittant issue where I will get what sounds like a servo motor noise and very erratic braking where the pedal looses pressure and braking is almost like "manual" pulling to the right. The right ft. caliper locked up once also. Could this be due to faulty ABS sensor? or any other ideas! Thanks

If the ABS light is not coming on then more than likely it is not a ABS sensor failure. When you push on the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure is generated in the master cylinder that is transmitted to the calipers through your brake lines, which in return applys the brakes. In this case sounds like your hydraulic pressure is not performing or acting properly thus leading me to beleive you may have an issue in the Master Cylinder. A faulty ABS sensor will lead you to "manual" feel brakes but will not lock up your caliper. If you end up needing a master cylinder or any other brake parts let me know>>>I have a garage full. If the ABS light kicks on seconds after the erratic braking, then it will be a faulty ABS sensor. If your brake pedal sinks while at a stop, then you have a leak in your master cylinder just as Will described. Larry |

i had an ABS failure and it felt like braking on ice even though it was summer. both front brakes had the failure, and it was sketchy due to the jumping. i left it so long that sometime i'd jump into traffic, not so good. it's like a 450 dollar job @ the dealer. otherwise i dont know, have fun. 1996 disco rules the world! |
