I have heard that adding a few cap fulls of brake fluid can help slow the problem. My understanding is that the brake fluid causes the gaskets/seals to swell thus reducing the rate of fluid loss

Rex, My 97 had to have the low pressure hose replaced it took care of the problem. Just make sure if you are going to wait that if you hear the grinding noise shut it off and fill it up or you will burn out the power steering.

don't put brake fluid in your PS system.
yes, brake fluid will swell rubber, but not controllable and not a wise idea.......
tighten clamps and secure line fitting.
most leak, but most of us are just to lazy to fit them.

Rex,

Take a can of degreaser or purple power and clean that area up real well. Then you can detect the leak spot. It could very well be a hose that has aged but take a very close look at the back of the power steering box where you steering linkage connects.

I would also suggest grabbing a spare high pressure hose just to keep around. My girlfriend was recently driving a 94 I got for her and called me stating the engine was smoking....It was the high pressure hose spraying all over the exhaust manifold on the drivers side...I replaced it and now we only have about a drop a day in the driveway. The back of the box is my issue on this truck and sooner or later I will need to replace it.

Did you fill it with regular power steering fluid or ATF?
I mad the mistake of not using ATF on a past rover and found out that regular power steering fluid actually causes more leaks...
