Can you do any damage by over filling the diff's? |

That's a good question Steve, I'm not sure how to overfill a diff. I've always filled it until it got up to the level of the fill plug and then put the fill plug back in. Is there some other way to do it? |

Ok, stupid I know. I rotated my tires and had the front on stands. Looking at the front diff I decided it was a good time to change the fluid. Keep in mind it is still up, I drained and filled as normal but when I was finished I realized I had pumped way too much in. Set the truck down and now you know the story. I went on to do the rear with out it on stands. That is is how you over fill a diff. It may be a 1/2 quart over. |

Man, if you are worried just pop the fill plug out while parked on level ground and let any excess flow out. When it quits dripping it is perfect. |

yes you can over fill diffs and yes you can cause damage places like jiffy lube that use air powered fluid pumps can very easily over fill them by pumping and pumping . the thick fluid will not really bleed out around the gun tip as the guy pumps. then when the diff heats up and the fluid starts to expand and out gas it will put pressure on the seals causing the seals and breather to leak. plus if you have a ARB it can ruin your selonoids and air compressor. because the fluid pushed up the breather will often plug the breather and then start pushing the fluid past the o rings and up the high prssure lines that activate the locker. Morel= level surface and only fill till the fluid runs out to level with the bottom of the fill hole. MM |

The manual sez 1.8 quarts and that won't reach the fill hole. I put 2 qts in and it still did'nt reach the hole. Which makes me feel like I am underfilling it because I always put in the oil til' it is equal to the fill hole. For what it worth. |

sometimes a slight over fill is good when you have turned the pinions up with a big lift they dont get as much lubrication, so a slight over fill will help get fluid "up" to the pinion bearing. if you plan to do this add a larger breather system to prevent the above mentioned problems |
