Forgot to check in the manual this morning, and need to pick up some AT fluid at lunch.

What AT fluid does a 96 Discovery with the 4.0l V8 use?

The manual states ATF Dextron IID.

I just add Lucas Transmission Fix:
A non-solvent formula that stops slip, rough shifting and leaks in automatic transmissions. Use in any transmission for preventative maintenance

Hope this helps.

What have you found with the transmission fix stuff? Any change? Anything bad about it?

Made shifting a little smoother and stopped a small leak that I had.

So far I have nothing but good things to say about Lucas products....too bad I don't get anything from them, but oh well, Life goes on.

Can be used anytime if you are low on fluid or during fluid change. Price, that depends on where you get it from. I buy everything by the gallon at most truck stops for about $20 for a gallon.

Otherwise it is somewhere around 6 or 8 dollars. That is if I recall correctly.

Can you pick up the ATF Dextron IID at truck stops too? Does the brand matter much?

The ATF Dextron IID, can be picked up and any Kmart, Walmart, Autozone, Advance, Napa etc...

Brand is more of a personal thing then most people care to admit.

Within reason all types of fluid are similar, some just work better for some people in some environments.

Kind of like the standard versus synthetic issue. If you change the oil every 3k who cares what type of oil you run. Standard should be good for 7500 miles under normal conditions and synthetic can go better than 15k (with a filter change).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't buy any oil that has some name I have never heard of without at least looking them up first. :-)
