Ok here is the question. I have run lots of tires off-road and swear by BFG's. Now I need to know some specific information from someone who has done this. I am currently running BFG 245x75x16" tires with OME HD springs all the way around. I will replace these in the spring and I am seriously eyeballing the same tire but in the 235x85x16" pizza cutter size. Did you notice any difference in the way the disco cornered or handled on the highway? I know the benefits of the extra half-inch of clearance off-road, and I know that the tire is less than a half-inch narrower, but does the extra height in the sidewall cause the tire to sway while cornering. Do you notice any rolling of the tire? Does it follow the groves that are worn in the pavement better? Did you like the change, even notice a change, or did you wish that you had stayed with the 245x75x16" tires.

Please, honest opinions only. I have read all the threads on tires and I have not seen this discussed.

Thanks for your time.

just realize that the 235/85 is a dullie, (dool-LEE)... config
so these tires are weight rating E, which to my knowledge the heaviest duty light truck tire... michelin tactical aside... but comparitively to the 245/75's you run, they should be a little "harder"... if that makes any sense... in other words they are made to withstand larger loads... so although they are narrower, ideally it should work out... but lets here from folks who actually run them... make sure to include your psi...
thanx,
the Jess

I have 245īs on right now and also wanted to go to a larger tire size. But was wondering if the 265īs are better than the 235īs. I know they are wider but I see more people going with the 235īs and was wondering why.

Well the 245x75x16 is also "E Rated" like the so called (dool-LEE)... tires. I have found that mine ride even better than the original clown car tires that the Disco came with. The sidewalls may be stiffer, but they still flex great. The handling is 200% better especially with the heavy-duty springs. I would like to hear from someone who has switched from the 245x75x17 to the 235x85x16. I have talked with a very reputable source concerning this and in his opinion they seem to be the best size for a Series 1 Discovery after a lift (spring replacement). I will also be adding 4:10 gears into the equation as well. Thanks again for you time.

I just changed from 245/75/16 E to 235/85/16 E and did'nt notice much of a difference if any at all. But, I also changed from worn M/Ts to new R/Ts which may explain better on road traction.

I was expecting a big change in final gearing but it was'nt as bad as when I went from stock to 245s. Going from 245s to 235s I did'nt notice much change. GPS did notice a slight (1-3mph) speed difference but only at higher speeds like 70mph.

One thing that did suprise me was that I did'nt need to adjust the turning stops in the front. I though they would rub for sure but they dont. The old tires were 30.7inchs on 7inch rim and the new ones are 31.7 on 6.5inch rim.

I run 30psi front 40 rear and don't notice sidewall flex but I tend to go slow around turns and corners just to try to save wear.

I run 245/75R16 BFG AT and 235/85R16 Trxus MT.

I think the 235 increases the wandering of the vehicle, but that could be the tire (Trxus).

Issues cornering are likely not noticable if you use high PSI.

Frankly, after doing the 2 above tires, I'd not do the Trxus again and would go 265/75-16 BFG MT. You might wish to consider the same, but I am unsure how much trimming you are willing to do.
