My engine temp gage redlines when driving long continuous uphill climbs. It is normal all other times. I have changed coolant and have done a vapor lock release by idleing on incline with radiator cap lose..I also note the engine temp seems to heat up to normal very fast (2-3 min) from cold start.. |

check thermostat, actually just replace it - its really easy and cheap. If that doesn't solve the problem, there may be a blockage in your radiator. |

I have the same problem on my 97 disco. Replaced the thermosat and that didn�t work. Was wondering if it could be a sensor. Haven�t rodded the radiator and that could be the problem. This problem seems all to common to rovers, well winter is here and the problem went away for now. If you rod your radiator and that fixes the problem please post then we all know how to fix the problem. |

I drive a lot of very steep highways and roads here in Colorado and my temp gage never moves a bit...So if the temp goes up you must have an issue with your radiator (unlikely to be the thermostat if it doesn't heat up on flat roads). Lionel 95 D1 195k |

depending on age and frequency, your radiator might be in need of a cleaning. Also wouldn't hurt to look at water pump. Would certainly try the thermostate first though. |

I believe so, usually when I�m around Lookout Mountain exit my temp guage goes up and then down around Everygreen and then seems to be OK. But then when I hit a trail and put it in low range it begins to heat up. So I wait and drive some more and it goes away then comes back. I need to this summer get it rodded and hopefully that fixes this annoying problem. |

I have a problem with over heating on my 95. When I have my AC on and stop at a light up goes the temp if I turn the AC off no problems. Also I can be on the highway if I am behind a truck or something else that restricts my air flow and my AC is on up goes the temp. I had service done at a shop a flush not just a normal flush but some special additive was added. Also I guess this flush was not epa approved they did it with a high pressure hose. When it was done the owner showed me what came out during the flush it was alot of crap. The took they freeze plugs out to check the block it looked clean. I stll had an over heating problem but refused to deal with this shop anymore. Long story on the shop but in short they quoted my a price for stuck valve repair but it seems like their quote was to take it apart not to put it back togeher. I forked over the 2800.00 for the work that had been done did not have the time to fight over it. Ok back to the subject still over heating so I pull the rad out bring it to a shop to be rodded out put it back in still a problem. All my fans are in working order my next step may be water pump but I don't think that could be it. Thermostat was also done. BTW the shop I was talking about is the number one import shop in my town of very high end cars. |

I forgot to mention that when I have the A/C on the temp goes up also. I hope I don�t have to do a valve job also. If that will happen I think I would sell the thing. I already had over 10k done in repair. |

Peter my valve job problem was found when I brought it in for a power loss problem. The only reason I brought that up in the post was to give a back ground on the shop I went to. Sorry if you thought I meant that could be part of the problem |

That got me a little worried, from now on I will put in fuel system conditioner every oil change, so hopefully in the future I don�t have the problem keeping all fingers crossed. |

All of you check your Fan Clutch, if you had your radiator flushed or rodded and the problem persist, than its probably the fan cluth not pulling enough air to cool the car. I did a lot of things to my 95 Disco, things like chaning all of the sensors (Coolant, Gage, A/C Fan switch), changed Thermostat, replaced one of the A/C electric fans because it was not working, and other things none of these things worked. Finally bought a used Fan Clutch for $100.00 replaced it problem fix.... |

Sure would be a good entry in Technical Section called Cooling Troubleshooting explaining the different items to troubleshoot based on issues expereinced. Or instead, least-cost replacement plan until issue resolved.

I would first check the temp using a thermo gun on the top hose and confirm you are indeed getting overheating. I've seen a lot of people replace a lot of stuff and find out later it was the sensor that was sending a bad signal when it got hot. Do you hear the fan clutch kick in when it shows hot? If you don't then it could be the fan clutch. Also, if you have an ignition problem, it will also overheat when under an extreme load. Just some trouble shooting ideas before spending big bucks on stuff. |
