Yes, a Series 1 will be better for DIY. Much less electronic wizardry to rely on. The Disco will do more than 50 mph with 5000 lbs behind it. I have done it many times. Maybe going up a really really steep hill... You're not towing 5000 lbs anyway. You're towing 2500 lbs. That's a piece of cake. Has he actually owned one and towed 5000 lbs behind him? Window regulators are completely DIY. Don't know about seats. I got manual seats & would recommend you do the same. They give you extra leg room & won't break. You can get manual seats in either leather or cloth.
