So, if I want a more aggressive sound but dont want to get too loud, which of these sounds like the best plan? I could get a dynomax or flowmaster muffler put on and keep the resinator or just take off the resinator and put a 3 inch pipe straight out the back and keep the stock muffler. Are any of those any good?

get rid of the resonator, have a muffler shop put a straight pipe in its place. will give you a lil more tone. if that doesnt do it then go with a dynomax if you dont want to go to loud. the flowmaster has a distinct tone. i run flowmaster 40 series on my Disco with no resonator and a dynomax on my ScoutII the dyno is much quieter but still sounds good just kinda tame compared to the Flowmaster.

Keep your stock 2.25 pipe, 3" will have you sounding like the boys down at the dirt track.

I'm running a flowmaster sans resinator, thinkning about adding something in for one though...

I would highly recommend removing the resonator.

As far as mufflers, I've try virtually every type and configuration available on the market on my 96 Disco.

My recommendation is, if you want a loud sound than use a Flowmaster, for a quieter sound with a good rumble and performance, use either the Dynomax or Magnaflow.

I would stick with the stock 2 1/4 pipes or if you want more sound from either muffler don't go any larger than 2 1/2 pipes. 3" pipes will make it too loud.

I have NRP cat-back on my swb Rangie- love the sound at 3k rpm against the Jersey wall.
I have a 40 series flowmaster and NRP cats on my cammed 4.6 Disco I. Loud, not a drone or bad resonance, just loud. Fitted 50 series to a another DI and I liked that better.

I have a Bosal muffler and no resonator on my 96 Disco and it sounds great! It's a muted and pleasant burble and very quiet at high speeds (can barely hear it over the MTR's).

About 5 years ago, I had a local muffler shop install a Magnaflow muffler and no resonator on my Range Rover Classic, with 3 inch pipe from the "y" pipe flange back. Magnaflows are basically built like a "glass-pack" muffler (you can see through the muffler from one end to the other). It sounded great, but on the drive from the muffler shop, it was too loud inside the vehicle to talk normally or listen to the radio/cd. I went back and had the shortest Magnaflow installed where the resonator goes. It still sounded great, and the sound level was reduced to an acceptable level inside the vehicle.

This system improved the "breathing" of the engine too. The vehicle "launched" better from a stop. I also got a 1 mile per gallon improvement in gas mileage.

I simply removed the resonator after installing my $G rear bumper for clearance. The difference in sound is noticable at the rear of the vehicle but not inside the cockpit.

It makes the V8 actually sound like a V8.
