What is the absolute cheapest way to lower my gear ratio? With my Blazer, I wanted to go with a limited slip so I just went to the junkyard and bought a complete rear-end with what I wanted. It was actually cheaper and easier than buying everything and having it installed. Am I subject to buying everything new? Is it possible to get a used third member with the set-up Im looking for? For all of my fiscally challenged Rover brothers out there, my thx in advance. Michael |

You may be able to find something used, but you're at the mercy of the previous owner as far as how hard they were driven. The gears from the Defenders, Rangies, D1's and D2 are all interchangeable. I bought my lockers (Detroit and True-Trac) from a Defender owner that had them for less than a year (he went w/ ARB's). I paid $350 for the pair, so there are some deals out there. |

not sure of the year of your disco but, you can add series diffs in, if the axles shafts are of the correct match. thats cheep only if you have a set of series diffs kicking around. but than again i could be wrong? |

If you are changing the gear ratio, you will have to do both the front and rear end. Limited slips or lockers has nothing to do with ratios. I doubt you will find anything useable in a junkyard. You might, but the odds area against you. Start saving. Setting up a Rover the right way cost $$$. - Axel
