I have a friend that is challenging me that four wheel drive (maybe minus all wheel drive?) doesn't work in reverse.....and although I thought I totally understood ALL of this...he has gotten me thinking.... TALK TO ME! |

Someone used to make an automatic locking hub for Jeeps and other domestic trucks that only locked with torque applied in one direction. The idea was you did not have to get out of your truck to lock the hubs, you just engaged the front axle and drove on. The torque locked the hubs and gave you four wheel drive. As soon as you disengaged the front axle the hubs just freewheeled. 'Great' idea except you did not have four wheel drive in reverse or four wheel drive when compression braking down hills. |
