Don't know if it's the frigid temps or what but my '96 disco acting funny. I'm on the highway for 20 minutes or so in the morning and when I come to a stop on the exit ramp it stalls whether in gear or not. Once I drive on the back road for a couple of minutes it's back to normal. As many of you from the northeast know it's been a little cool lately and the problem coincides with this. Any ideas?

Sounds like the dreaded "Stepper Motor", aka "throttle control valve". Do a search of this site and find out how to clean and replace it. Not difficult.

Someone else just posted nearly the same problem. Before spending a dime on the stepper motor, do yourself a favor and clean the Idle Air Intake Valve. Its right on the front of the plenum, one electrical connection to pull and 2 4.5mm screws. They get gummed up, stick, and cause low RPM stalling.

I had the same problem on my 97 Discovery and setting the base idle fixed the issue. You might also want to check that your throttle position sensor is Ok.

Hope this helps.

Jay.

i had the same problem with mine. It was the fuel pump. Ran fine when we were going along but if we stopped at lights it would stall. Hope this helps
