Just replaced my 2002 DII with "The Great Pumpkin", 2004 G4! I feel the need to get muddy!

I like the pumpkin color, and a 04 with CDL would probably be perfection....

A dealer down the street from me has had one on the lot for the past couple of months.

I would have though someone would have picked it up if it was so rare.

Jack,

I wonder how much the lack of interest has to do with less than stellar profile of the G4 Challenge. Outside the Land Rover enthusiast community I don't think I've seen anything.

When compared to the profile of the Camel Trophy, and the XD that it spawned, it doesn't seem to be much of a surprise. The CT was run for several years before the XD was brought to market. This probably created some pent-up demand that isn't there for the G4.

I bet this run of G4s will be very desirable after the G4 is run for a few years.

Still waiting for specs...

I disagree. The CT was a bad ass, malaria inducing, bridge building, mud eating trial of human patience and endurance. When I look at the G4; I see Chip and Sally driving over obstacles without spilling thier Latte's and racing in a bunch of OLN type sports.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the good wishes.

G4 comes with the "S" stuff and adds a few extras like hitch, SLS, rear lamp guards, cross rails for the roof rack, A frame brush guard and LR driving lights, ladder, and nylon interior, the dealership back here always does the dual sun roofs, which I could have done without.

I really like the motor and suspension improvements over the 2002 Disco. My wife drives a 2003 Disco HSE.

Its been snowing, sleeting, raining today I will post some pics soon. After the bank account recovers a little, I'd like to get safari rack for it. Seeing the G4 race pics and those roof racks on the Rovers look great. Seems to break up the orange a little.

I bought mine at 9:30 AM. Another buyer came in at 10:00 AM and tried to buy it too. The G4 had been there for months as well. Cool thing about the other buyer was they had a CT and wanted G4 too. Coolest was the person was a woman! I love it! I hope she finds another one.

I saw someone from Walnut Creek, CA replied. I come out to Livermore Lab every now and then. I envy you living out there, I really like N. CA and Bay area. I know in the last 15 years it has really filled up out there though.

Saw a G4 Disco here in Edmonton this weekend too. I think only 1 or 2 made it up to Canada so kinda neat to see.

The Kalaharis sold slowly too, at least around here. The one I got had been at the dealer for something close to a year.

I would never buy one. Not because of what they are but because where I live. They scream UF Gators to me and I am not a UF fan.

I guarantee here in the SE only Gator fans will buy them. Anyone else sees that around here and they are thinking ugly.

It's like that ESPN commercial with the Michigan girl kissing the Ohio State guy. It's just sick.

How's that for a whacko view of why I would not buy a G4 challenge Disco?

Throw my argument right out the window why don't you.

Just kidding.

What color is the stripe on it if the main color is black instead of orange? I know the orange has a blue stripe.

Victor,

Yea I think that's what the GM of the dealer said. The only reason why one came to Edmonton I think was because the buyer basically said he was willing to pay whatever to get one and had a cheque all written out so LR Edmonton did whatever it had to to get one. It's kinda scary to think what this guy might have actually paid for it.

I'm just curious to see if this truck shows up at any of the events around here or if it becomes another mall crawler. I've never seen any of the Kalahari trucks or the Trek trucks at the events or elsewhere non-pavement wise. Looks like quite a few folks buy these special models just to be unique.

Alan,

There's one way to improve the chances that he will find his way onto a trail: put your card under the windshield wiper and invite him out on the trails.

I suspect he would be a little curious what it would be like off-road and might take you up on the invite. The president of the Ontario Hummer Owners Group does this and seems to get a great deal of interest. The problem is a lot of them are afraid to get their H2 scratched up so they tape cardboard (with leaf cammo design) to the sides.

As I mentioned earlier, it seems the G4 hasn't really generated much interested outside the LR enthusiasts. As a result he must know something about Land Rovers, and I'd hope he has some interest in going out at least once.

Have any of you seen an '03 Kalahari before? They have one at LR Las Vegas and it looks to be a little more custom than most LR special editions usually are. Its pretty sweet.

It looks alot like the concept kalahari safari gard was commisioned to build for safari gard a few years back;

http://www.safarigard.com/Safari%20Gard%20Kalahari.htm

It was probably a promotional stunt by the dealer.

I have seen an '03 trek before. There was one for sale on e-bay a while back from the same dealer in las vegas. It was a darker orange than the g4 orange.

LR LV has them custom built by $G. They had a yellow kalahari in July. Lots of big $$$ in LV.
Can't think of a better vehicle to haul bodies out to the desert for the mob. :-)

FWIW, I bought mine on 1 Nov and felt good knowing that I had just 1 of 200 in North America. Then, I took her in for service and the dealer I took it to (different than where I bought it), had one for sale and another just being delivered. Weird to think that 1.5% of all US G4s were in one place at one time.

I think they still have one for sale if any one is looking. It was at Land Rover Monmouth in NJ.

We have one that comes out of loaner service 2/27/04. It is orange. We had 2 others, and both sold rather quickly (within 1 week of getting them in).
