Any ideas before I capitulate and buy an new alternator? Has anyone ever had the actual Gauge go bad?- I have a spare instrument cluster So far: Belt routing- check Connector on back of alternator- stripped and crimped a new connector- this worked for 1.5 days. Voltage:with the lights on, cell charging and jimmy hendrixs cross-town traffic at an obscene level- still 14.5 at the battery.. the alt problem has been ongoing for about 6 months now if the alt was going to fail it would surely have done so by now would it not? Tach works intermittently first thing in the morning- belt is 10k new- possible stretch? Are there any voltages out of the back connector to check? An old post mentioned a resistor- the Haynes doesnt have the ohms for this. Help appreciated unless youre my alternator part supplier. Cheers peter

My connector comes loose all the time. I wanted a new high output alternator, but unfortunately mine's still fine . I just have to clean the terminals and reconnect them securely. When it first happened I put a multimeter across the back to verify it was working properly. I don't remember where I put it across, but I do recall experimenting a bit before I found the right places. |
