After contacting Yakima Racks and their claims that the highrise racks fit Discovery II's, I tried installing their high rise racks on my truck today. The mounts contact with the side of the roof and would end up damaging the roof over time. Has anyone got any ideas or had any luck with other racks? |

Thule has a higher rise than Yakama does. They have adaptors to fit the Yakima bars to their mounts. I had the same problem with a D1 so I bought a used Adventure Rack. Solved the problem and is super functional. The Yakima "stuff" can be made to fit the Adventure Rack too. -Jim |

Thanks Jim, I will talk to a Thule dealer on Monday. I'm pretty pissed about Yakima. I would love to get a hold of an Adventure rack, but they're pricey and not as readilly available used here in British Columbia. Ian |

Ian, You might be intereseted in the Adventure Racks from Northwest Parts (http://www.northwestparts.com/Voyager_Racks.htm) They have a look alike rack for US$500 painted and US$569 powder coated. I think they are in Portland. It might be worth the drive to save some money on shipping. The current exchange rate won't hurt either. Victor |

Ian, If you end up going w/ the NWP rack....go for the powder coat option. Wish it was available when I purchased mine. All in all...good rack for the price. |

Sean, I am searching for a rack but I want the Adventure rack. Do you have any pictures of your rover after the rack was put on? I know there are pictures on the NWP site but I just wanted to know if you had any pictures with the rack on YOUR rover. Are you satisfied with your rack? How was your service from NWP? What are the downs on their rack compaired to the SD rack? Were there any problems with the rack in any way small or big? And my big question is how are the welds - are they strong, messy? Thanks vaden |

../17/38091.html> Forget those NWP piece-of-shit wannabe racks. If you really want a legit roof rack, you'll find a deal on a used Safety Devices rack like Jim did. Look hard enough and be patient. The deals are out there. I'd rather have an ugly-ass wood pallet Hannibal rack than that poseur wannabe rack.

Vaden Will work on getting some pics. As far as opinion- the biggest problem is rust. Like I said above, when I purchased, Andy was only painting them-no powder coat..so my buddy and I (which also bought a NWP rack about the same time) are trying everything including spray on bedliner to curb the problem...might have to break down and get it powder coated. As far as the welds-they could have been ground down-they are a bit messy. Service level was a little slow but I think when I bought he was quite backed up but shipping was through ABF Freight and I had no issues (dents, nicks, etc.) SEAN |
