OK, finished my homework searching and everything but still no answer. How do the Safari and Mantec snorkels attach to the filter box on a D1? The tech section shows a D2 attachment, but it's stock intake is already thru the fender to begin with. On the D1, the intake is a type of "horn" hanging off the front of the filter box out there in the engine compartment. Do they both use the existing filter box? And the next big question: what are the pros/cons of the Safari vs the Mantec other than one's plastic and the other is steel?

ARB: Remove the horn, plug the hole and make new hole on the side of the air box. Air box also gets relocated. All necesary hardware is included. Mantec: Remove the horn, attach flexible hose which runs through the hole covered by a rubber plug way up front on your inner fender wall. Pros/Cons: See above. - Axel

Axel (or others), With the Mantec, do you still have room in front of the air box to drop a second battery? I've seen people do this after an ARB, but haven't seen any interrior pics under the hood of a D1 after a Mantec. From your discription it sounds a little like the space may not be as available. :-/ Lawrence 96 Disco - "Beowulf" - NH, USA |

Well I can't comment on Mantec, but you will have more room with ARB since the horn is removed and the hole is plugged. The ARB comes with a complete set of instructions for relocating the airbox which is just a few inches away from the fender to allow side-entry of intake.

Space with mantec is no longer available for a battery, although you will have room to keep the stock jack there. I have the mantec and like the quiet appearance of it, Most folks dont notice it, Peter. |
