Just wondering if anyone knows if these are still sold state-side? I would rather not spend $40 plus shipping to get one from the UK. But, being the girl that I am...I think I need one for the Rover! :-)

I still see them at the dealer so I'm guessing you can still get them. But maybe a special order??

Land Rover West Chester had a crap load the last time I was there. Ask Mikey if he's got some left.

Sus,

Yet another topic in the "General" category upon which I shall opine <g>. I collect old toys, and old bears are one of my interests. My disco has a mascot bear, but it's not the LR bear. Mine is a Steiff safari bear, Reginald Oliver Smythe, or the Reggie bear for short. It never caught on much in the Steiff collecting world and can be had fairly cheaply on ebay, though still more than $40.00. A LOT nicer piece that will be around in another 100 years, so consider it an heirloom :-)

Karen :-)

Awww. Thanks Karen, I love Steiff bears!!

Yes, I'm sure the Discoweb Gods were gritting their teeth when they saw a post about a stuffed animal. Guess I should have said it was for a kid! :-)

Yes, Susannah you need one! It is a very important "girl thing" :-) I collect bears too, the rover bear looks identical to an antique bear that has been in my collection for years. I got mine from the dealership and used my 10% off coupon. Purchasing there, I also avoided the shipping charges.

Let us know when you find yours! :-) Jamie

HAHAHA, it's CHICK CHAT! Before any testosterone-heavy types "blow" this off, let it be known some antique bears can cost a few hundred thousand dollars. The Reggie bear has an interesting story. The original antique Reginald bear was carried around Africa on safari, which has spawned some beautiful books of original artwork which tell the story. I'll have to see if he travelled by Rover. (See how on-topic I'm keeping this?) Stuffed animals have been part of many interesting stories, and were not only intended for little girls. The famous Titanic Steiff polar bear was carried onto the ship and safely rescued along with his owner, a little boy. After that tragedy Steiff made 60 dozen black "mourning" bears for export to the UK, since so many dead on the Titanic were British. If you can get one of those today it will set you back the better part of $100K.

I confess to having two Steiff safari bears. One lives in my cabinet with my jungle animals and the other rides shotgun in the Disco. David takes it out, I put him back in! He loves my Steiff collection, but there's something about having
that bear ride along with him to the grocery store (HAHA, it's true!) that makes him cringe.

Karen :-)

I think I saw someone else on here have a Furbie in their truck and I'm sure a lot of other folks have something like that in theirs. I've got a little rhino that sits by my CDL.

Fluffy, soft and they do quite well even after machine washing!

Its funny how car sites seem to have an affinity with stuffed animals - the Subaru I club - has the 'trunk monkey'.

Craig,
that's great! ...but my question for you is this: they say people often look like their pets, do you resemble your mascot?!

(J/K that was toooo easy today! I'm in a foul, work-related mood!)
