Hi all, I've got a stuck High/low trasfer case problem. It's on a 94 Disco with an auto trans. I've narrowed the problem down to a shift lock solnoid keeping the High-N-Low lever from moving from High (on top of the transfer case). I don't have a wiring diagram, so I no idea where I should be tracing down the fault. On a second note.... what's been the experience with these "manuals on CD" that show up on Ebay for really low prices? Some claim to have the whole factory manual on them. Thanks in advance. Well, it may just be sticking. I'm assuming you're slowing down to 5 mph with the transmission in neutral - just give it a real strong tug like you're trying to break it off (but don't ) I've had to threaten mine with a hacksaw on occasion. SC |

I've tugged real guud on it! I even went as far as to remove the linkage and tap on the lever that goes into the trans-case, with no luck. When I removed the sol. to inspect it, I found it was bent (by me or the PO). I tested the shift lock solnoid and it worked, so I straghtened it (I hear the gasps) and refitted it. and it still dosn't work. The manual says it gets power when the key is on, but without a proper wiring diagram, I'd be chasing down wires for hours just to have an airbag knock me through the cab. I'll wait till the CD with the diagrams shows up. I just bought the car and the PO agreed to pay for any cost other than adjustments to get the trans. case working. We'll see if he holds true on his word. |

Don't pay a fortune for the CD but they're not bad. Of course I paid for a 99 D1 disc and got a mannual for 97 and earlier. My buddy with a 98 got the same. The disc does have so much I'm not half way through it after a month. Of course I move my lips when I read. It does have wiring diagrams. I'll check mine for any info on your sol. Do you have a part number for it? It will help me track it down faster. |

I put the part back in before taking the # down... The part is shown in my 95 disco repair book as "Service repair no- 41.10.63/64" Maybe you can search by that. I have the CD coming, so no big deal. I can stay on the road till it's fixed. Worse case situation, I can run a hot lead to it and bypass the switch. Thanks Al |

I've been having the same problem, but if it is indeed the solnoid that is keeping the lever from moving, then isn't my only option getting a new solnoid or can they be fixed or ran around? 98 Disco here and I think I had this same thing replaced when my DI was still under warranty. |

I cured the problem by tracking down the electrical fault. The PO had bent the PRND321 lever (probably when he didn't have his foot on the brake) and the button that releases the lever from park was not going all the way to the end of it's travel which didn't trip the micro-switch, causing the key lock and shift lock to engage (no key removal or shift from high/low). The PO had unplugged the key lock connector to get his key out, then found he had a battery draw that would kill his battery (the trans shiftlock relay "shiftlock sol #2") so rather than trace the problem down, he unplugged it too. It took me a couple hours of tracing stuff down, but it's fixed now. And I know a hell of a lot more about the Disco. I almost feel I need to get a laptop to take with me to run the repair CD I got online. What a great disc, it has all the modles from RR classic to 2003 disco and freelanders. I pretty sure the seller violated a copyright, but I figure I'm gunna take it in the a** paying for parts anyway, so a cheap manual won't hurt the LR coffers too much. Al |
