I have 50,000 miles on My Discovery # 1 and would like to do a "little preventitive maintanence,"change /replace etc...".wheel hub bearings" ....could someone give me a step by step procedure...... just so you know I have hub nut tool to take of nut off so lets start from that point...anybody please respond...oh one last thing who has "the best price right now on wheel hub bearings" ....how long should this job take the average joe,,, also If my memory serves me correctly there are 8 wheel hub bearings...anybody correct me if I am mistaken thanks...... one more thing can these wheel hub bearings be "repacked"and if so what greese to use etc....what is correct torque value etc in ibs newton/tolerance for hub nut install....thanks everybody standing by "PEACE TO ALL IN DISCOLAND"....bye for now.......... |

Use the procedures on this site, www.d-90.com, or www.spanishtrailrovers.com. I use Mobil synthetic grease. The bearings can be found at most autoparts stores (Timken set #37). Use a brass punch to drive out/in the races and be sure to get all of the shavings out. Some people have used the old races to drive in the new ones. |

If you use the old race to drive in the new one, the old may get stuck. In order to prevent that, cut your old race so that it can compress, and you'll have no trouble, and a handy dandy new tool to boot! BTW, I used marine grease because of all the water crossings I do. |
