Anyone ever replace your brake rotors with cycro-ed rotors?
I was looking for alternatives to those expensive axle upgrades, yes I know now that cryogenic thermal cycling is not what is required for axles, however, upon further discussion with a fellow who has a cold-fire shop, it seems brake rotors are very good candidates for the benefits of the cryogenic process.
This fellow does the vast majority of rotors for public services vehicles in my location, such as police, county vehicles, taxis, etc…
Just wondering if the treatment would manifest any negative traits such as submerging in water after heat-up on trails or other anomalies.
The benefits boasted are 3x life span and for $78/rotor (includes rotor + treatment), that is standard stock rotor, well hmmmm?
Anyone has ever tried this approach before?

I have always done the cryo treatment on my race car brakes. I can attest to a significant difference in fade, and increased longevity.

Since cryo treating only improves fade, I couldn't see why it would create a problem in quick-cooling like submerging. Sounds like a real bargain. Just make sure you don't skimp on the pads.

Give him a call.
Ed @ ColdFire - 727 530-3955.
This is not a special deal for me, he offered this. I hope I have the right figures for which he quoted.
Tell him where you got the heads-up and maybe he will give me a special deal, hehe!

Once you chat with Ed, let the rest of know if you think the prices sound right? It was several months ago when Ed and I talked... can't remember if it was Brembo rotors or not, meaning not solid but fins.
Good luck!

If you want to learn about brakes you must go to www.stoptech.com Click on "technical" and go down to "Warped brake rotors and other myths"

It seems proper break-in and use are more important than exotic metals.

Rover-on!

I don't think you get the point here Joe, BTW, good site and thanks.
I am not talking about exotic metals, these are cast-iron rotors from Brembo that will be treated.
I have forwarded my question to Stoptech in hopes of an answer, maybe a FAQ entry, regarding cryogenic advantages/disadvantages.

I spoke to a guy from www.300below.com a few months ago and he told me they charge $2.50 a lb to cryo treat anything you want and it's about a week turnaround. He told me they do a lot of ambulance and tow truck rotors. They last about 3x longer. They also do a lot of stock jeep axle's and stock cv's on import drag cars. FWIW
