Ok, here is my question. All the dash lights are on and I know that in the least I need a new front ABS sensor. I was told about $550 for the new sensor (need whole hub) plus whatever labor will cost. Can I do this myself? My truck is out of warranty. Personally, I think my truck is worthless without ABS because I dont have a CDL so off road I might as well be in a Chrysler Pacifica. But, if I got a CDL kit would I need the ABS, ETC, HDC? I am just wondering which way to go. I have a feeling if I was ever to trade the truck in down the road ABS light being on really isnt going to make a lick of difference. Who knows, maybe the lights will burn out soon.
Thanks
Matt

There are a couple of things your can do for the ABS light. 1). Remove the bulb, that seems to be a favorite one around here, I did it for a while until I changed the Sensors. 2). Buy a used sensor from a wreck yard they run about $75 to $100 with the harnest, easy to instal. 3). Pull the fuse for the ABS pump and you don't have to worry about item number four 4). leave it alone and wait until your car ABS goes crazy and does not allow you to brake. Your ABS help you in the rain, they are worthless in ice, but I believe they also help offroading using the Hill Decent Control as engine and ABS brakes slow or maintain the car decent. Anyway price them around and do it yourself the installation is fairly easy.

Matt - I have to agree with you about the ABS, it needs to be fixed. Without ETC the Disco II would really struggle offroad, because it would only be applying power to the one wheel with the least traction.

You shouldn't need to replace the whole hub though, are you getting your service from the dealer or an independent?

Matt - I've been told that the sensor just pushes in through an o-ring and bushing, and that it can get pulled out in use. You can try to tap it down again so its closer to the hub cogs.

Thanks a lot guys, I was told on the D2 I would have to replace the whole hub to fix the sensor. I was told that by an independent shop. I go to church with him and feel I can trust him, but at the same time he may not know everything about Rovers. I am taking it to the dealer on Friday to see what they think. I have a feeling they are gonna be thinking big repair bill.

Have you actually have a look yourself yet? The sensor is just a metal bar that runs close to the cogs, so if its pulled out a little it will fail to detect things moving. At least jump under and take a look....

Just get a used sensor and that will do for the ABS and ETC, after that you should not have any problems using the CDL. I had the same problem and the dealer said the same thing....bad hub...wanted to charge me $600....

Also:
if you get the part number from the sensor
then go find a truck parts supplier and buy your sensors from them!
in the UK
L/R charge £120 per sensor
truck spares £35 per sensor
for exactly the same item!!
on Disco s1 the system is made by Wabeco<sp>

Tony,

Is this correct as I contacted a Wabco agent and they don't have the part number on the system and when they contacted Wabco UK, they turned round and said 'supply only to LR'

By any chance, does anyone have a pic of what the REAR ABS multiplug harness "should" like as it runs up from the rear wheel hub when it is attached properly?

Thanks in advance, Jamie
